WORKING PAPER Make Borders History

A) The day in Glasgow:

  • "Morning": What about starting the day with a breakfast talk/panel discussion?

the idea is a rather relaxed meeting around 10/11 am width coffee/tea somewhere in glasgow (any proposals for lacation?). information on the idea of the tour, althought information/experiences with trevelling to the g8. (if people have problems entering the uk or leaving countries, this could be an occasion to report), presentation of initiatives (maybe "the voice" likes to present themselfs?), projects, ideas for the future.

B) "Afternoon": Make Borders History-Tour

here are some "Points Of Interest" and there link to issues around migration.

1) Home Office Details HomeOffice

issue: immigration laws, control, etc.

                  NASS Regional Office c/o
                  IS Scottish Enforcement Unit,
                  Festival Court, 200 Brand Street,
                  Glasgow G51 1DH

2) Group 4 Falck/Securicor Details Group 4 Securicor

issue: control, privatisation (which does not mean that a state prison s better than a state prison ... of course)

                  Group 4 Falck A/S Corporate

Suite 2-3/Clydeway Centre 45

                  Finnieston Street Glasgow
       3) Airline Office (location?)
       airline campaings/ deportation as example:
       possibilities of campaigning etc ...

4) YMCA -- IOM Details Glasgow_IOM

issue: this is not to blame the YMCA (not only), but to talk about the function, structure of migration control (so called "voluntary returns)

(especially the assimilation of UN/NGO organisations in the process of
       migration control)
                      33 Petershill Drive
                      Glasgow G21 4QQ
                      http://www.ymcaglasgow.org/options.html

5) Labour Agency Details Migration_Work

issue: illegalisation, precarity, connection of migration and work.

(not to blame one agency in special)

6) harbour, duane(?) (location?) in (e.g.)hamburg there is the so called "freihafen", which means that

there is a border right in the city around the interational harbour.
that means there is a real border control this could although be a link
       to colonialism.

C) The "Evening":

  • panel / discussion?
  • movie screening (maybe together width introduction/talks)
  • "no border"-party?
  • locations ?
