Relating to amnesty campaigns
From Noborders Network Wiki
- At the No Borders gathering in Glasgow we discussed how to relate to amnesty campaigns, given the facts that a) many people in No Borders had grave doubts about any amnesty campaign, and b) there was likely to be a national campaign for an amnesty in the near future which included proposals quite dangerous for migrants and migrant movements. It was agreed that we would work on materials collaboratively that different No Borders groups could adapt and use in responding to these issues.
- To some extent this proposal has been overtaken by the reinvigorating and expansion of the October 7th coalition (possibly under a new name tbc) which has issued a callout for a march on May 7th, but in my mind there is no conflict with some No Borders people being involved in that and the No Borders network continuing to have an internal discussion about how best to respond to amnesty campaigns.
- Included in this section therefore is a) a very preliminary draft of a leaflet that could be adapted for use, b) a statement I wrote when clarifying my own views that could maybe be adapted for something even if only a basis for discussion within No Borders groups, and c) the callout for the May 7th demo, not yet endorsed by any No Borders groups but highly relevant and important in this discussion. Any further documents produced by the group emerging from the Oct 7th coalition will also be added here.
Hope this all makes sense!
