Outline:
The Make Borders History day on 3rd of July is a Walking Tour of Glasgow's Migration Control Industry. It is an event to highlight those involved in the business of Detaining and Deporting Migrants in the UK.
Performers have been invited to communicate their feelings,
thoughts and information about Migration control as part of
this walking tour.
Police have been informed and have given us the advice that,
as this is a Walking Tour and not a Street Procession no
permission is needed for this event. As for numbers, we
really don't know if 50 or 500 people will arrive on the day.
Role of Tour Guides and performers:
Tour Guides: The role of a Tour guides may suit solo performers or small groups of performers who can entertain and inform their “tourists” as they walk from stop to stop on the tour. You don't have to be a performer to be a Tour guide. This role suits refugees, parents, students, teachers, workers, activists and members of the community. All you need is to be able to speak to a group and take a group of people around Glasgow. Background information will be given out via email and the makebordershistory.org website in advance, and training will be given on the day.
If you would like to receive a tour guides information pack
please email – migrartists@yahoo.co.uk or join the email
list g8refugee-action@lists.riseup.net
Performers: Organisers want to be as helpful as possible to performers to help them do what they want to do. Currently we are linking planned “Stops on the tour” with performers with relevant performance. For example there is a performance group called “Brides against Borders” highlighting new laws which break up families and prevent people from marrying non-EU members without state permission. We will work with them to find a appropriate location, outside the registry office or a suitable local government office.
Other stops on the tour include, Travel Offices and the
Govan Asylum Reporting Centre. A full list is being
compiled and your input is welcome.
If you have an outline of what you would like to do and
have a suggestion for the type of location you would like
to perform it, or if you would like help deciding a good
location please contact us.
